I'm a father of two young brown girls. My oldest came to me one day and asked "why is my skin color different than the others in my class?" She was 3 at the time. I found myself reflecting on the countless stories and lessons I was told, at such young influential ages. Stories of racial slurs, violence, rules, and silent understandings.

This is such a common and historically foundational black experience. Yet, I find myself explaining it to not only my 3 year old but to my white peers. How? Why?

This project was taken up by myself my allies at Hello Monday. Designed to act as a Trojan Horse to help white families begin their journey to become anti racist.

We designed the language and visuals in this short handbook to be as approachable as a childs story. To be a book that feels familiar and safe, but reveals itself to be sharp and foreign. The experience is surrounded by emptyness, but inside you find a bright and saturated interior, beaming with life. The reality you didn't know existed. It's almost a fantasy land and hard to believe.

We filled the book with tips that are actionable. Tips that will help you and your family or friends expand yourself beyond your current perceptions.

The digital site was crafted to feel like opening your favorite picture book as a kid. The simple, tangible UI gives the site a warm and cozy feeling.

If you think you'd like to own a physical copy. Email me. I'd love to make this little digital  book a physical reality.
